Anfibio Sigma as extended version with TubeBags
The long-awaited version of the established Anfibio Sigma has extra-large TubeBags (luggage compartment in the tube) and 20 cm more internal length. Therefore L stands for Long and XL for Extralarge. The T remains for Team. An interesting feature is the flexible positioning of the front seat and the variable fixing of the second backrest. Therefore, the boat is suitable as a fast single (central seating position) and a classic double.
Configuration and equipmentThe Sigma TXL combines touring suitability with a weight suitable for backpacking. With an inside length of 180 cm it offers enough space for two people. Paddled as a single with an outer length of 280 cm it is comparatively fast and true to track. Otherwise it is kept compact with a tube diameter of 27 cm. As it is typical for a Sigma the lower panels of the bow and stern segments are made of reinforced floor material.
Seating system
The boat comes with a variable seating system consisting of a freely positionable block seat and an adjustable comfort backrest/belt as well as an additional rear seat with backrest.
When used as a single - with a seat in the central seating position - the boat's bow and stern symmetry makes it similar to a conventional kayak and its paddling characteristics. The block seat and backrest can be adjusted individually to suit paddlers of different sizes.
In addition to the TubeBags the Sigma TXL also offers storage space for luggage behind the central seat. To make room for a partner at the back, the central seat and backrest can easily be moved forward and the addtional room can be fitted with the
Anfibio WideSeat (included).
TubeBags
The Anfibio Sigma TXL also comes with extra large Anfibio TubeBags as standard. These are two centrally positioned and IPX7 waterproof luggage zips with directly backed and airtight internal pockets (100 litres each). The respective luggage compartment and the main air chamber thus form two separate air spaces. The zips do not have to be airtight for their task because this is not necessary due to the construction. Even slightly (!) opening the system maintains its function. This makes it very resistant to dirt and wear:
- luggage is automatically positioned correctly and secured against slipping
- the transport inside ensures a low centre of gravity, protection against moisture and reduction of wind susceptibility
- the transport capacity of the boat is considerably increased
Assembly: First stow the luggage (load the inner pockets), then close the zips, then inflate the main air chamber.
For disassembly please note: First open the main valve! Then open the zips and unload the luggage.
Floor mat (optional)
An optional
inflatable floor mat is available for the Sigma TXL. It stiffens the bottom respectively the entire hull, insulates against cold and wet and increases the seating position. Paddling comfort, handling characteristics, range of use and control of the packraft are improved.
Please note: in combination with the floor mat we recommend for frontseat the Anfibio FoamSeat or the Anfibio PackSeat (light) and the Anfibio PackSeat (with back rest) for backseat. The Anfibio Wideseat, which is supplied by default, is too high with the floor.
Use
The use depends strongly on whether it is used as a single or double.
As a single the comparatively long shape is ideal for extended tours and long distances on calm waters, possibly with a lot of luggage (or child/dog). Depending on ability, however, the 2nd white-water grade can also be easily mastered. Packing size and weight (3,5 kg) remain suitable for backpacking, but are not ultra-light.
The use in white water is not recommended for two as the buoyancy of the 27 cm tubes is not sufficient (especially without spraydeck). On the other hand the comparatively light format (3,5 kg) makes classic packrafting tours (combined tours on land and water) with partners and luggage pleasantly realizable:
- River travelling
- Trekking with river sections
- Trolling
- Geocaching (multi-caches, T5)
- Sailing (dinghy)
- Adventure races and expeditions
As a single person the boat is paddled with a
double paddle. For two people you can also paddle canoe style (e.g. with a
multipaddle).
The boat is likewise paddled kayak or canoe style and is
inflated with a big nylon inflation bag, which attaches to the boat via a screw-in valve.
Material and workmanshipThe Anfbio Sigma TXL is made of special fabric (210/420 urethane nylon), which has a high tear and abrasion resistance despite its low weight. The smooth and shiny surface of the tube's coating is particularly scratch resistant. All the boat’s seams are fully welded and the tube seams are additionally sewn, making it a completely glue free construction. This saves weight, costs and the environment! We grant an extended 3-year warranty on materials and workmanship. A special feature are the reinforced lower front and rear tube segments with panels of floor fabric to ensure even higher robustness when having ground contact. However, as an ultralight boat it should still be treated with the necessary care, especially when fully loaded.
Repair
Of course, no inflatable is indestructible, but in the (unlikely) event of sustaining damage, repairs can be done within a few minutes in the field with
Patch`n Go, which bonds permanently to the urethane surface. Small pinholes can be sealed with
Stormsure, a liquid urethane sealant.
