The Kokopelli Recon is not your traditional packraft. Engineered from our toughest and most bomber material, the Recon is perfect for road-to-river whitewater and after-work laps. With the exact same shape as our original Whitewater Series Nirvanas, the Recon is self-bailing and weighs in at 18 lb (8.2 kg) and is constructed of the toughest packraft material ever. Featuring our 210 Diamond-Ripstop Nylon full length Inflatable Floor with Integrated Seat, a Leafield D7 valve, and thigh-strap attachment points, the Recon is built for whitewater performance.
The Recon is built from the toughest packraft material ever, featuring 0.9 mm PVC sidewalls and 0.9 mm PVC floor. The seams are welded and the pontoon-to-floor attachment point is glued to the sidewall and then reinforced with v-seam tape around the entire interior of the packraft.
Whitewater Series packrafts also have an additional 3 in (7.6 cm) of floor material coverage on the the sidewalls for extra reinforcement and protection.
The Inflatable Floor with Integrated Seat is made from 210 denier Diamond-Ripstop Nylon and uses a Leafield D7 valve. Starting at 7 in (17.9 cm) thick in the seat area, the floor tapers to 4 in (10.2 cm) thick from the knees to the bow. This keeps you comfortable and improves paddling position which allows for deeper, more efficient paddle strokes.
For the main pontoon, the Recon features a Leafield D7 valve, the most durable and bomber valve on the planet. Used in all full-size rafts, the Leafield is made from roto-molded plastic and is threaded and screwed together, not welded or glued. Meaning your valve will never come un-welded or fall apart. The Leafield D7 also easily integrates with the all new TRiB airCap and Foot Pump with Pressure Gauge.
NOTE: Click HERE for instructions on the Leafield D7 valve.
The Recon features two-chambers (Inflatable Floor with Integrated Seat + full-pontoon) for added safety, a moderate trim, aggressive rocker on the bow, and a large-volume stern which gives it great Class 1 – Class 4 handling capability and stability. Combined with the extra-large 12 in (30 cm) diameter pontoons and higher floor-to-sidewall attachment point, the Recon is perfect for crushing whitewater.
The adjustable kayak-style Backband offers superior back-support while increasing paddling power.
The Self-Bailing design has several advantages including reduced weight (compared to a spraydeck-sprayskirt system), easier self-recovery, faster accessibility for scouting, or in and out extreme-low-water sections, and it opens up the entire interior of the packraft for gear storage.
All Whitewater Series packrafts have our proprietary 3-Point Thigh-Strap System which when combined with the optional 3-Point Thigh-Strap Kit provides the paddler additional control over the packraft. The additional control allows the paddler to fully engage their core and leg muscles, which is especially important on challenging whitewater. For more advanced paddlers, they also present the opportunity to roll your packraft like a traditional kayak.
NOTE: The 3-Point Thigh-Strap Kit is multi-purpose and also functions as the Shoulder-Strap Kit for the Animas River Bag.
Not enough? Add our 21 in (53 cm) Tizip to make your raft even more versatile. The Recon with the optional Tizip zipper increases storage giving you access to the inside of the packrafts pontoons. The Tizip compartment storage also integrates with our Delta Inflatable Dry Bags (Set of 2) which are perfect for protecting your gear or adding extra chambers of air.
NOTE: Lightly lubricate your Tizip zipper with the included silicon lubricant every single use. For more instruction on lubrication and Tizip care, see the Tizip Lubricant (8 g) or the Product Manual.
There are four strategically placed nylon loop d-rings on the front of the packraft to allow secure storage of gear or fatbike which also integrates with the Animas River Bag. Additionally, the Recon has two d-rings on the stern of the packraft allowing you to run a safety-line or store more gear.
NOTE: Always follow the Clean Lines Principles.
Always rinse your packraft off with clean water once you are off the adventure. Be sure to clean out any debris that may have accumulated in the seams of your packraft, where the pontoons meet the floor. Allow to dry fully. Store loosely rolled in a climate controlled, UV-free environment to extend the life as much as possible.
NOTE: A slight amount of Dawn or another friendly detergent can be added to the water.
